Hello, fellow Oddballer!
Prehistory meets modernity in this edition of Odddballs. But it’s not quite what you think. No time travel this time. Still, very interesting and, of course, odd.
As always, links are in bold and underlined. Have fun with those. So, without further ado, here are five oddballs for your eyeballs!
Modern-Day Cavewoman
Sure, she’s not some thick-browed Neanderthal, but she is a cavewoman… technically speaking. Beatriz Flamini, an athlete in Spain, spent 500 days (starting on November 21, 2021) in a cave alone without direct contact with the outside world. She wasn’t completely out of touch though. She was monitored by some scientists who, at times, sent some food and picked up her… um… droppings.
Apparently, Flamini loved it! She spent her time drawing, knitting, reading, and exercising. Basically, she was living the introvert’s dream.
Odd Cards
Here’s something personal. Jessica bought a set of cards for Bash’s little talking device to add to the cards he already has. As I was looking through them, I came across these goofy standouts:
Obviously, the folks creating these cards are looking online and grabbing stuff, but one would think they could find better representations. Hey, is that last one Randy from “Saturday Morning All-Star Hits”?
Chonkosaurus
Check out this hefty turtle some call “Chonkosaurus,” although I doubt it’s actually a dinosaur surviving from the Jurrasic period. But hey, I’m no scientist. Regardless, have you ever seen anything like it? It’s busting out of its shell!
According to AP, This turtle was spotted in Chicago by a guy named Joey Santore while he was kayaking along the river. Some turtles are ninjas, and others, like this one, are not.
Student Eats $120,000 Banana
According to NPR, a South Korean college student named Noh Huyn-soo ate a banana from an art exhibit in Seoul's Leeum Museum of Art because he was hungry. Makes sense.
The banana was part of an art installment named “Comedian” by artist Maurizio Cattelan and the banana was swapped out with a fresh one every so often. A few thoughts:
Is this really art?
Why am I working so hard with my art when this stuff sells?
Maybe this is more about the price of groceries than art.
An App That Helps With Bathroom Breaks at the Movies
Going to the movies these days is expensive. When nature calls, you run the risk of missing out on something important. Not anymore! An app called “RunPee” is here to tell you when to go pee and what you’ll miss. An odd app for sure, but I can see it as useful.
I rarely use the bathroom when I’m at the movies because I’m cheap and don’t want to waste money not experiencing what I paid for. That said, when you gotta go, you gotta go!
