Hello, fellow Oddballer!
Do you want some odd shows to stream? Good! Because that’s what you’re going to get!
As always, links are in bold and underlined. Have fun with those. So, without further ado, here are five oddballs for your eyeballs!
Saturday Morning All-Star Hits!
My buddy Trevor turned me onto “Saturday Morning All-Star Hits!” It’s a satirical show made to look like an early 90’s Saturday morning cartoon program. You know, how the different channels had a theme for their batch of cartoons. It’s incredible that they animated the shows within the show - each having an arc - while the hosts (two of the same actor) also had a surprisingly dark arc. Think “This is Spinal Tap” meets “UHF.”
Severance
Imagine “The Twilight Zone” meets “The Office.” If you’re in the mood for dark humor with a futuristic bent, this is it! It has some slow pacing so be prepared for that. Yet the imagery is strangely beautiful and the story is compelling.
The Big Door Prize
Jessica and I just finished season one of this series - there’s no season two as of yet. Regardless, it’s a fun trip. It’s based on a book; haven’t read it, and probably won’t as the show stands on its own two feet. It’s a comedy but I would say that it’s more humor than comedy as it deals with human nature and our collective foibles. Every character is flawed yet endearing. Think “The Twilight Zone” (again) meets “Parks and Rec.”
Cunk on Earth
This show is smart while masquerading as obtuse. In my book, that is the best type of humor. Your average viewer may not find this show funny but that’s simply because your average person may not know how purposely absurd it is. But you, fellow Oddballer are no average person. This one is like “This is Spinal Tap” meets “Borat.”
Look Around You
Here’s another one referred to me by my buddy Trevor (he always knows best). It’s produced to look like an 80’s British educational science show. Everything is so dry yet goofy. The only comparison I have is “Saturday Morning All-Star Hits” meets “Cunk on Earth.” It’s not streaming anywhere so you can only watch snippets on YouTube.
