Howdy!
I’ve been contemplating the second half of my life in a non-mid-life-crisis way… meaning, I’m thinking about how to make the next part of my life the best part of my life. As we get older, it’s important to do the things we still have time to do. Your dreams are still within reach! As long as you’re not dreaming of winning the NBA Slam Dunk Contest or anything crazy like that!
Here are five things do make you think and get your brain juices bubbling:
A fellow webcartoonist created this interactive wall for his son. It looks like something you’d find at a museum! It opens my mind to possibility. Granted, time is always a precious resource, BUT if you have the time, why not do something crazy-cool with it?
Speaking of cartoonists, my favorite cartoonist is Sergio Aragonés. My buddy Trevor sent me this article from the Washington Post that spotlights Aragones as the oldest living MAD Magazine artist. Aragonés is 85 and still working! His secret: love what you do. Sure, we hear that all the time, but usually from 30-something motivational speakers. What do you love to do? What could you do up to age 85 and beyond?
In his book “Million Dollar Habits,” Brian Tracy lays out a seven-step plan for achieving goals. And while I always recommend reading the whole book, for the sake of time and convenience, I’ll post them here for you:
Decide exactly what you want and write it down clearly and in detail
Set a deadline. If it’s a large goal, set sub-deadlines
Make a list of everything you’ll need to achieve this goal
Organize your list of action steps into a plan. Priority and sequence.
Identify the obstacles in the situation and in you. Ask, “Why have I not achieved this goal already?”
Take action of some kind
Do at least one thing every day that moves you toward your most important goal.
I drove by The Andy, here in San Antonio, and was curious about their signage offering “work/life balance.” Turns out they rent these giant open industrial spaces for you to live and/or work. Is this a harbinger of things to come? Would you live/work in a place like this?
We went to the San Antonio Rodeo this past weekend. And while it was WAY too many people and noise for our liking, we did get to see some interesting things. For instance, I got to see a sloth up close and personal. That’s right, a sloth… at the rodeo. Go figure.
I’m 48 years old and have never seen a sloth up close and personal. Never thought I would. What new and exciting things are possible for you? Get out there and experience them!
