"The Hunger Games" Delivers to Your Home, Dances with Knives, and the Moog
5 oddities to ponder and share
Hello, fellow Oddballer!
What oddities do I have in store for you today? Well, some may not seem odd but are while others may seem odd but aren’t really. You be the judge.
As always, links are in bold and underlined. Have fun with those. So, without further ado, here are five oddballs for your eyeballs!
At least we’ll be prepared for the Hunger Games
Remember in “The Hunger Games” when bonuses were rewarded to the players and were delivered to them directly from the sky? Well, a company named “Zipline” is doing the same thing. You have to check out the video on their website. It’s only about a minute long.
The delivery drone pictured above is about the size of a breadbox. I find this odd in that books/movies like “The Hunger Games” are cautionary tales; harbingers - we are to recognize the warning signs and steer in another direction. Yet, we’re gravitating toward our dystopian future at full speed. Thoughts?
Beware the dancing lady
Have you ever woken up in the middle of the night with the feeling that something just isn’t right? Now imagine that it’s 2:30 AM and you peek outside and only to see some weird woman dancing in the street wielding a knife. No bueno!
The image above was captured from a video I recently watched about her (click to view). The story is that a woman, dressed in traditional Serbian garb, who is dancing in the street and then attacking people with her knife. Some say there is more than one woman doing the ol’ “Dance and Stab” routine. No doubt, as her popularity grows, imitators will join the shenanigans. Of course, as they say, it’s all fun and games until some dancing Serbian lady stabs you in the liver.
Shakespeare in the Bible?
You may have heard that the sentence “Here was I like a psalm” is an anagram for “William Shakespeare.” Now consider this: according to a short from the YouTube channel TheWhyFiles, “In Psalm 46, the 46th word from the beginning is ‘shake’ and the 46th word from the end is ‘spear’. Know how old William Shakespeare was when the King James Bible was published in 1611? 46.”
The odds of these exact coincidences seem outlandish. I have some theories about William Shakespeare and something like this only adds fuel to fire. What do you think?
Red Hot Senior Citizens
The Red Hot Chili Peppers was formed in 1982. As of the time of this posting, the band is 41 years old. Three of their members are over the age of 60! Not only are they still touring, but the guys are also in great shape. Seriously! See for yourself in this “60 Minutes” feature.
Music bands are notorious for self-imploding, burning out, or simply becoming obsolete. Yet these guys have done the exact opposite. This makes them oddities; part of an elite sect of bands. Did you ever expect these guys to be going strong for over 40 years? And, did you ever think that as senior citizens (almost) that they would be in better shape than you?
Moog music to put you in the mood
One look at the album cover below and you might think it is the creation of a weirdo in his basement. Yet, the musician, Mike Melvoin, was no such basement dweller (at least not that I’m aware of). He recorded with the likes of Frank Sinatra, John Lennon, The Jackson 5, Natalie Cole, and The Beach Boys. He even won a Grammy! (Probably not for this, though.)
The music is aesthetic. Sure, it’s odd, but a soothing odd… especially if you’re a tired robot in the ’60s. Is it genius, a strange vanity project, or simply far out? You decide - hear it here. Mooooooog!
